About Thomas Ng . . .
As far as he can remember, Thomas Ng has had a love affair with good food.

Thomas grew up in Hong Kong – a “Gourmet Paradise” and “World’s Fair of Food”. This has given Thomas a huge opportunity to get expose in variety of food in every class since he was very young. Some of his earliest memories were going to the central market (a huge market across the road of Thomas’s family apartment) with his mum to purchase fresh ingredients for daily cooking. The power of those memories still conjure up excitement; the smells, the noises, the varieties, the colours ... the vibrancy of Asian central market.

Thomas Ng worked part time as a dishwasher steward since he was 14 years old. He became active and serious in kitchen when he turned into 16 years old and see this as an opportunity for his future career. After 3 years working full time at a high-end Asian Restaurant, Thomas had moved from a dishwasher steward to the youngest Commis Chef at the time.

However, Thomas’s mum decided to send him to further his study in Adelaide. Without disappointing his beloved mum, Thomas came to Adelaide in 1999 to study ‘IT’. Upon completion of his diploma in IT, Thomas had decided to go back to kitchen due to his strong interest and passion in culinary and food.

After a couple of years working in one of the best Asian Restaurant in Adelaide, Thomas Ng found himself a golden opportunity in Gouger Street. He decided to take over the current Thai Restaurant with his mate. With all the savings he had and support from his family, a new ‘Nu Thai’ finally open its door in Year 2004 and awarded the Best Thai Restaurant – Restaurant & Catering SA in the following year.

For the last 7 years, Thomas Ng continues a hands-on mentoring, cooking, and management in Nu Thai. His enthusiasm for new creativity and strive for authentic flavours has won him 2011 - Hall of Fame Thai Category by Restaurant & Catering SA.
